Mad Men was the nickname of the advertising men of Madison Avenue in New York in the late 1950s. It is also a pun on ad men, (advertisement men) and the English word mad (crazy). The series played between March 1960 and November 1970. Thread in the series is the difference between then and now in regards to the dealings between the sexes, dealing with minorities, homosexuals, children, and subordinates. Mad Men painted a sharp picture of social change during the 1960s and how the main characters grow with these changes. Furthermore, the series outlines the changes in daily life in terms of food, smoking, drinking, media, and clothing. In addition to work intrigue, private or family life and associated cruel situations are mainly central. Mad Men is especially praised for its eye for appearance and details (sets, language, props, music, and clothing).
