Marco Dolfi was born in Viareggio on April 3, 1953. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, sculpture department, graduating in 1975. From 1995 to 1998 he was a teacher of Artistic Anatomy at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and became part of the Roman artistic environment. Since 1999 he has been teaching drawing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara. His first solo exhibition was held in Viareggio at Magazzini del Sale art gallery in 1978. His solo exhibitions have been held by the main galleries and public spaces in Italy.
In 1981 he participated with a solo exhibition at the Art Fair in Bari, with Ferretti art gallery. The following year he entered into a working relationship with Ferretti art gallery in Viareggio, which presented him at major art fairs. In 1985 he began his collaboration with Studio 4 art gallery in Molfetta, which organized exhibitions in the Puglia region. His 1987 exhibition at the Petruzzelli theatre in Bari is worth mentioning. In 1993 he held his first anthological exhibition at La Versiliana in Marina di Pietrasanta and a second larger anthological exhibition at Palazzo Ducale in Massa, organized by the Provincial Council along with the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara. In 1999 he was invited to the municipal gallery of Monte Mar-O-Novo in Portugal, in order to participate to an exhibition of Italian paintings. In the same year, the exhibition at Galleria La Vetrata in Rome is worth mentioning. In the following years he took part at the great exhibition ‘L'Età delle illusioni mancate’ at Palazzo Mediceo in Seravezza, while in 2005 he published his first book La poesia del mare, published by Maschietto editore. Marco Fagioli organized a prestigious exhibition of his work at Accademia degli Euteleti in San Miniato, while he was starting a collaboration with Euroarte art gallery in Lisbon.
In 2006 he held an exhibition at Castello Malaspina in Massa and an exhibition at the Romanian Institute of Culture and Humanistic Research, at Palazzo Correr in Venice. In 2007 an exhibition was held at Palazzo Piccolomini in Pienza (Siena) and the same year he was invited to take part in the exhibition at Principe di Piemonte in Viareggio in honour of Mario Monicelli, with a work inspired by one of the director’s films.
Since 2008, his exhibition activity ranges from the Crocetti Museum in Rome to the Villa Paolina Museum in Viareggio, then Fossi art gallery in Florence (2009) and the Diocesan Museum in Massa (2011), while in 2013 a large solo exhibition of his paintings was made on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the University of Lèon in Nicaragua. Personal exhibitions follow at Galleria 54 in Molfetta (Bari), at Ismi art gallery in Viareggio, at Palazzo Panichi in Pietrasanta and at the Medici Riccardi Museum in Florence.
